College Newspaper
As a journalism minor at SMU, I was able to accumulate samples of written and broadcast work. I learned and practiced various styles of writing, such as news, arts and culture, sports, profiling, and more.
I joined the Daily Campus Student newspaper as a staff writer shortly after beginning college. Then, I first became the managing editor, and then the Editor-in-Chief, of the paper. I was able to explore my leadership style during this time and was able to help others write and find their own voice.
Podcast
On this episode of Ask the Expert, SMU Professor Liz Navarro talks over Zoom about her company, her career, and more. Her company, Liz Navarro + Co., helps professionals and businesses to share, brand, and market their ideas. Navarro’s company, established in 2016, does this through digital marketing, content creation, public speaking coaching, copywriting, resume writing, personal and professional branding, and more. As a public speaking professor, Navarro prepares students to give presentations, toasts, and other types of speeches that they may encounter in their professional and personal lives. Today, Professor Navarro shares how she entered the world of consulting from academia, what she does, how she helps clients and students, the similarities and differences between her work at SMU and privately, and she gives some advice to students on how to come up with a personal brand early in their career. Listen in on this episode of Ask the Expert for all this and more.
